US History - Chester A. Arthur

The 21st President of the U.S. was Chester A. Arthur became president after the assassination of President James A. Garfield. Arthur grew up in New York and later practice law there. During the Civil War he was appointed to the quartermaster department while becoming brigadier general. Despite being poor health, he was able to perform solidly while in office. He left office respected by political allies and foes alike. He was born on October 05, 1829 in Fairfield, Vermont and died on November 18, 1886.
