The 12th President of the U.S. was Zachary Taylor was a career military officer before running as a Whig in 1848. He was also known as “Old Rough and Ready,” having served in the War of 1812, the Black Hawk War, and the 2nd Seminole War. His moderate view on slavery angered many Southerners. After 16 months into his term, Taylor died of gastroenteritis. He was born on November 24, 1784 in Barboursville, Virginia and died on July 09, 1850.
